• PRIVACY POLICY OVERVIEW

Unlike our convertibles, we don't believe that your personal information should be Always Open for the world to see. We appreciate the trust you place in MINI and would never want to jeopardize that trust in any way. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the security of your personal information. Which means we will never rent or sell your personal information to anyone.

On top of that, we work hard to make sure that we maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards designed to protect your personal information.

And if you ever have any questions at all regarding your privacy, large or small, practical or just philosophical, please don't hesitate to contact us.

  • WHAT INFORMATION DOES MINI COLLECT?

As part of keeping our MINI fans and enthusiasts in the loop, we collect and save "personal information" such as your name, address, email and phone number that you might have volunteered while signing up for emails or mailings from MINI USA or saving a MINI vehicle configuration.  We also may obtain such information from third parties. “Personal information” means information that identifies you or could reasonably be used to identify you. We also may collect other information about your visits to our site without you actively submitting such information.  This information may include, for example, your browser type and language, your operating system, your Internet Protocol (IP) address, the URLs of sites you visited before and after visiting our site, the web search that landed you on our site, and web pages and advertisements you view and links you click on within our site.

As for information we don't collect? The list probably starts with "Things you've found by the side of the road" and just goes from there…

HOW DOES MINI USE MY INFORMATION?

The primary use for any information we collect is to help facilitate efficient and relevant communications regarding MINI products and services. We would never intentionally do anything to jeopardize your trust, including renting or selling your personal information.

DOES MINI SHARE INFORMATION WITH ANYONE ELSE?

From time to time we share information with other members of the BMW Group to help provide offers for products or services that may be of interest to you. Members of the BMW Group include, BMW of North America, MINI USA, a division of BMW of North America, LLC, MINI Financial Services, BMW Financial Services, BMW Bank of North America, and BMW Insurance Agency. We also share personal information with non-affiliated companies that provide services on our behalf. These companies are contractually obligated to keep the information that we provide to them confidential and to only use it to provide the specific services we've asked them to perform. We also share personal information with MINI Dealers who are independent entities and have their own privacy policies.

    IS MY INFORMATION SECURE?

We do everything we can to protect your personal information. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards designed to protect personal information. This includes deploying encryption technologies and user authentication procedures that are designed to keep your data secure. We also limit access to personal information so that only authorized personnel and contractors who need access to perform their job and are contractually required to keep your information secure, are able to see it.

    CORRECTING/UPDATING PERSONAL INFORMATION

When a user's personal information changes (such as ZIP code), or if a user no longer is interested in our service and we are notified of such changes, we will correct, update or remove that user's personal information. In addition, the personal information in your online profile can be updated by you at any time on MINIUSA.com; select SHOPPING in the top navigation, the select Sign Up For Emails, and then UPDATE PROFILE.

    PRIVACY OF CHILDREN

We do not knowingly collect or use any personal information from children (we define "children" as minors younger than 13) on our site. We do not knowingly allow children to order our products, communicate with us, or use any of our online services.

If you are a parent and become aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@askminiusa.com or write: MINI USA, a division of BMW of North America LLC., Customer Relations and Services, PO Box 1227, Westwood NJ 07675-1227, and we will work with you to address the issue.

    LINKS TO OTHER SITES

Though our site contains links to other sites, we are not responsible for the content, links or privacy on any of those sites.

    EMAIL LINKS

We use email links throughout the site to allow you to contact us directly with any questions or comments you may have. We read every message and try to reply promptly to everyone. Information in the message is used to respond directly to your comments or questions. We may also file your comments to improve the site and programs, or review and discard the information.

  • OUR POLICY ON COOKIES AND TRACKING

Cookies help provide a luxury and convenience similar to that of memory seats. They save you the trouble of reentering certain information in some registration areas, help to deliver content specific to you, and track which sections of the site are most popular. A ‘cookie’ is actually a file that our webserver or the webserver of one of our third-party partners may send to your computer when you access one of our sites. This file is then stored on your computer.

In addition, on certain web browsers we use Flash cookies in connection with our website. Similar to browser cookies, Flash cookies are used to remember settings, preferences and usage, but are managed through a different interface than the one provided by your web browser. If you want to delete Flash cookies, please access your Flash Player settings management tool available on Adobe's website. However, if you do not accept cookies (whether browser or Flash cookies), you may not be able to use all portions of our website or all functionality of the website.

WHY DO WE USE COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES?

We use cookies and related technologies for the following purposes:

    - Cookies are used on the site to access personal information that you may have shared if you decided to Sign Up For Emails. For example, in a registration area requesting your name and e-mail address, permanent cookies allow us to fill in that information for you. Our use of permanent cookies is controlled and guided by our policy on confidentiality shown above.

    - Similarly, cookies allow us to save the information you have entered into the Configurator feature. The Configurator feature allows users to build their ideal MINI and save it on our server. We use a cookie to identify which saved vehicle you customized.

    - Cookies and other passive information collection technologies enable us to deliver content that is tailored to your interests and preferences based on your past activity on the site.

    - Cookies and other passive information collection technologies enable us to compile aggregate statistics concerning use of the site, analyze trends, and otherwise administer and improve the site.

    - Cookies may also be used to identify you as a consumer who has opted out of interest based advertising.

WHAT TYPES OF COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES DO WE USE?

    - "Session” cookies: Session cookies are temporary bits of information that are erased once you exit your web browser window or otherwise turn your computer off. Session cookies are used, for example, to improve navigation on our web sites, block visitors from providing information where inappropriate (e.g., the site may remember previous entries of age that are outside the permitted parameters and block subsequent changes) and to collect aggregated statistical information.

    - "Persistent” cookies: Persistent cookies are more permanent bits of information that are placed on the hard drive of your computer and stay there unless you delete the cookie. Persistent cookies store information on your computer for a number of purposes, such as retrieving certain information you have previously provided (e.g., Login ID), helping to determine what areas of the web site visitors find most valuable, and customizing the web site based on your preferences on an ongoing basis.

    - "Web beacons” (also known as internet tags, single-pixel GIFs, clear GIFs, and invisible GIFs): A web beacon is a tiny graphic on a web page or in an e-mail message that is used to track pages viewed or messages opened. Web beacons tell the web site server information such as the IP address and browser type related to the visitor's computer. Web beacons may be placed on online advertisements that bring people to our site and on different pages of our site. Web beacons provide us with information on how many times a page is opened and which information is consulted.

WHY DO WE ALLOW THIRD-PARTY PARTNERS TO PLACE COOKIES ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Like most advertisers, we place advertisements where we think they will be most relevant to customers. One way we do so is by allowing network advertising companies with whom we work to place their own cookies when an individual visits our site. This enables the network advertising company to recognize individuals who have previously visited our site. When the individual visits a third-party web site on which that network advertising company has purchased ad space, the advertising company can then recognize the individual’s interest in MINI products and services and deliver one of our advertisements.

WHAT CHOICES DO I HAVE REGARDING THE DELIVERY OF TARGETED ADVERTISEMENTS ON THIRD-PARTY SITES?

MINI USA, a division of BMW of North America LLC. adheres to the Digital Advertising Alliance’s Self-Regulatory Principles for Online Behavioral Advertising (www.AboutAds.info). The Digital Advertising Alliance maintains a website where consumers can opt out from receiving interest-based advertising from some or all of the network advertising companies participating in the program (www.AboutAds.info/choices). Additionally, MINIUSA.com provides our consumers the ability to opt out from receiving interest-based advertising (link to come). This is done through a cookie based tag. This does not mean that you will no longer see a MINI ad, but rather we will no longer use your data to target ads to you. Should you delete your cookies at any point, the opt-out tag will be removed and you may be targeted again until you opt-out again.

In addition, most internet browsers allow you to change your browser settings to notify you when you receive a cookie, which lets you choose whether or not to accept it, or to automatically refuse all cookies. Please be aware that some functionality of our web site that relies on the use of cookies may not be available should you choose to refuse all cookies.
