Countryman: Overview

Countryman: Size & Utility

MORE ROOM THAN YOU EXPECT. GUARANTEED.*

“Wow! There’s so much space in here!” (or some similarly surprised comment) is something we almost always hear from folks sitting inside a MINI for the first time. See, what most don’t realize is that a few of our most important performance features – the engine turned sideways so it doesn’t poke into the cockpit and our kart-like, wheels-at-the-corners layout – are actually solutions we invented over 50 years ago for the sole purpose of creating more interior passenger room. Add in our “plant-on” roof and you’ll begin to understand why, MINIs, perhaps ironically, are often the car of choice for some of the biggest motorers.

*Claim only valid for people who have never actually sat in a MINI before. If you’ve already been in a MINI, then you know full well to expect a surprisingly spacious cabin.

 COME IN FOR A FITTING

BIGGER ON THE INSIDE

JOHN HRCKA: 2010 COOPER S HARDTOP

“The big test: sitting down in one. Amazingly, I fit! I had plenty of head room. My legs stretched straight out beyond the pedals. My 6'7" body finally found a home inside, as close as I’ll get to a small sports car.”

CHRIS ZECCA: 2012 COUNTRYMAN ALL4

“I fit in the front seat, I fit in the backseat. Not a problem.”

JEREMY LETENDRE: 2010 COOPER S HARDTOP

“I sat inside a Cooper S hardtop and was amazed that I could easily climb into it. The seat was quite comfortable and if I pushed the seat all the way back it was too far. I couldn’t reach the pedals! I have had it for just over 3 years now and it is the most fun I have ever had in a car. I love it more and more everyday.”

SEATING FOR 5

The first ever 4-door MINI, the Countryman’s larger base means more room for everyone lucky enough to hitch a ride. Especially with a standard rear bench seat with plenty of room for three adults or ginormous triplets. So whether you want to hit the town with a few friends, or head out of town for the weekend, the BIG MINI's gets the job done.

Yes, that is a set of four tires nearly laying flat in the Countryman.

GENEROUS CARGO SPACE

16.5 cubic feet of goodness in the boot; 42.2 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. Enough to hold all the luggage you'd ever really need. Or a week's worth of camping gear. Or your snow board, amplifier and laundry. Or the full-sized lawn ornament you found at the flea market. Or a 36" TV and stereo. Or a pair of Bernese Mt. Dogs and their feed bags. Or whatever else you want to bring along for the ride.  There's even a 12V outlet in the boot, so, with the right adapter, you'll be able to plug in that TV (or blender, or fish tank, or vacuum) and use it as you see fit.

OPEN-WIDE TAILGATE

With a bigger interior compartment designed for maximum carrying capacity and an open-wide tailgate, a MINI Countryman can swallow some serious cargo. The tailgate is opened by pressing the upper half of the circular MINI badge or using the key fob's remote. It swings open high enough for an adult to walk under providing easy access to load or unload kayaks, bikes, baby strollers, suitcases, groceries, satellite dishes and other not-so mini things.
