Paceman: Overview

Paceman: Size & Utility

MORE ROOM THAN YOU EXPECT. GUARANTEED.*

“Wow! There’s so much space in here!” (or some similarly surprised comment) is something we almost always hear from folks sitting inside a MINI for the first time. See, what most don’t realize is that a few of our most important performance features – the engine turned sideways so it doesn’t poke into the cockpit and our kart-like, wheels-at-the-corners layout – are actually solutions we invented over 50 years ago for the sole purpose of creating more interior passenger room. Add in our “plant-on” roof and you’ll begin to understand why, MINIs, perhaps ironically, are often the car of choice for some of the biggest motorers.

*Claim only valid for people who have never actually sat in a MINI before. If you’ve already been in a MINI, then you know full well to expect a surprisingly spacious cabin.

GENEROUS CARGO SPACE

Road trip? Ski trip? Bring it on. And bring it all. The generous 11.7 cu ft. of boot space balloons to a whopping 38.1 cu ft. when you fold the rear seats down. So whether you’re transporting a herd of bulldogs, pillaging the flea market for a Peruvian armoire or taking the crew for a long weekend on the slopes, no packing sacrifices need to be made. Additional storage space under the flat-load floor is a great place to stash your priceless (or more private) treasures.

PASSENGER ROOM

How many people can it hold? Well, let's put it this way. Back in 1999, a group of enthusiasts in New York City broke the Mini-Cram world record by fitting 25 people into a Classic Mini. And new MINIs are even bigger. So we might guess 30 or so. Officially, of course, the answer is four adults (five, in the MINI Countryman.) "But how?" you ask. Well, it was a novel idea when we first came up with it in 1959, and it still does the trick. By pushing the wheel wells out as far as possible to the corners of the car and mounting the engine transversely, we've created the maximum interior space possible.

REAR SEATS SPLIT

Borrowing your cousin's free weights? Big stilt sale? Just impulse-bought a few rolls of fiberglass insulation because it looked so soft and pink? Don't panic. MINIs feature back seats that can fold down in a 50:50 split, allowing you to carry a passenger in the back and boost your cargo space at the same time.

OPEN-WIDE TAILGATE

With a bigger interior compartment designed for maximum carrying capacity and open-wide tailgate, a MINI Paceman can swallow some serious cargo. The tailgate is opened by pressing the upper half of the circular MINI badge or using the key fob's remote. It swings open high enough for an adult to walk under providing easy access to load or unload kayaks, bikes, baby strollers, suitcases, groceries, satellite dishes and other not-so mini things.
