Roadster: Overview

Roadster: Size & Utility

MORE ROOM THAN YOU EXPECT. GUARANTEED.*

“Wow! There’s so much space in here!” (or some similarly surprised comment) is something we almost always hear from folks sitting inside a MINI for the first time. See, what most don’t realize is that a few of our most important performance features – the engine turned sideways so it doesn’t poke into the cockpit and our kart-like, wheels-at-the-corners layout – are actually solutions we invented over 50 years ago for the sole purpose of creating more interior passenger room. Add in our “plant-on” roof and you’ll begin to understand why, MINIs, perhaps ironically, are often the car of choice for some of the biggest motorers.

*Claim only valid for people who have never actually sat in a MINI before. If you’ve already been in a MINI, then you know full well to expect a surprisingly spacious cabin.

GENEROUS CARGO SPACE

Usually a convertible’s trunk space gets eaten up by the need to make room for the roof. But that’s not the case with a MINI Roadster. Measuring nearly 8.5 cu ft, the Roadster actually has more interior cargo space than competitors like the Mazda MX-5 Miata (5.3 cu ft).* And with a convenient lockable “load-through” opening, longer items like skis, snowboards and 6-foot subs can even fit by going through the boot and into the cockpit. Include the open-wide tailgate that lifts high enough to swallow awkwardly sized items, and the Roadster will not leave you hungry for cargo space.

PLENTY OF ROOM FOR TWO.

John Cooper's brilliant engineering adjustments that made the 4-seat Hardtop so roomy – turning the engine sideways and pushing all four wheels out to the corners – give you and your co-pilot plenty of leg, elbow and headroom. And in a Roadster, instead of extra room for backseat drivers, you get a bootload of cargo space (a rare commodity in most two-seaters). Perfect for getaway weekends with a special co-pilot and your luggage.
