Compare Models

Unrivaled fun and distinctive design are the heart of every MINI. But there are some key differences between models. Select the models and trims you would like to compare.

Side by Side Overviews

  • Every new MINI now comes equipped with a world-class MINI TwinPower Turbo engine. From there, the key thing to understand is the difference in power output among the 3 trims:

    • All MINI Cooper models are 3-cylinders and 134-horsepower.
    • All Cooper S models are 4-cylinders with a power boost to 189-horsepower.
    • And the track-ready MINI John Cooper Works models feature our most powerful 4-cylinder engine cranking out 228-horsepower.
    • The MINI Countryman Plug-In Hybrid has a 134-hp gasoline engine and an 87-hp electric motor, for a total system output of 221 horsepower.
  • Thanks to our signature wide stance and wheels-at-the-corners design, all MINI models have legendary, grin-inducing agility.

But there are some key differences between the models:

    • Compared to the MINI Hardtops and Convertible, the Clubman and Countryman each have a slightly wider turning radius due to their larger size, slightly wider wheelbase and longer front overhands.
    • A 6-speed manual transmission comes standard on all models except the Cooper S Countryman, which has a standard 8-speed automatic transmission.
    • Adjustable Driving Modes come standard in all models except the Cooper Hardtop 2 Door and Cooper Hardtop 4 Door, which have them as available options.
    • Our high-performance John Cooper Works models have a stiffer sport suspension for even tighter handling.
    • The Clubman and Countryman each offer ALL4 AWD.

    Additional Notes:

    • For Cooper S models with an automatic transmission, paddle shifters are an available option.
    • For John Cooper Works Models, the optional automatic transmission includes paddle shifters.
    • Across all MINI models we offer optional performance enhancements that make for an even more thrilling ride, like Performance Control and Dynamic Damper Control.
  • To someone sitting in a MINI for the first time, the amount of interior space might feel like magic, but it’s actually the result of thoughtful design. The plant-on roof, wheels-at-the-corners layout, and sideways engine—all original MINI innovations—were conceived to maximize passenger space in every MINI.

Which is not to say that all MINI models are the exact same size:

    • The Countryman is the biggest MINI we’ve ever made. It seats 5 very comfortably. In fact, it has more rear leg room than the Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA250.
    • The MINI Clubman is a very close in roominess to the Countryman, also seating 5. Both are ideal for families.
    • The Hardtop 4 Door is a roomier version of the Hardtop 2 Door. It also seats 5 perfect for smaller families who need to navigate city traffic and parking.
    • The MINI Hardtop 2 Door and Convertible each seat 4.
  • People are always surprised by just how much they can fit inside a MINI. But, with the addition of crossovers like the Clubman and the Countryman Sport Activity Vehicle, we now offer a wider range of model options:

    • The MINI Clubman and Countryman are our two biggest models, designed to fit a large amount of cargo for road trip adventures and weekend excursions.
    • The MINI Hardtop 4 Door is the bigger and more family-oriented Hardtop, with almost 50% more trunk volume than the 2 Door.
    • Every MINI comes with split-folding rear seats, to allow for flexible cargo and passenger combinations.
    • In the MINI Countryman, 40/20/40 folding rear seats are standard, and the whole rear seat bench slides forward, for even more packing versatility.
  • Cutting-edge features give every MINI exceptional safety:

    Active Safety Features:

    • Standard: Advanced brakes automatically prepare for an emergency stop and dry themselves in wet conditions.
    • Standard: Dynamic Stability Control selectively applies brake pressure to individual wheels, helping to counteract oversteer and understeer.
    • Standard: A Rear-View Camera and Rear Park Distance Control help you move safely in reverse.
    • Optional: Adaptive Cruise Control automatically maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.

    Passive Safety Features:

    • With the exception of the Convertible, every MINI has 8 dual-stage airbags: 2 front, 2 side-impact, 2 ceiling-mounted side curtain and 2 knee-level. These smart airbags adjust their inflation pressure depending on the severity of a collision and help protect against secondary impacts.
    • Due to its soft top, the MINI Convertible has 6 dual-stage airbags: 2 front, 2 side-impact, and 2 knee-level.
    • Our advanced Crash Sensor system automatically unlocks the doors, turns on hazard lights, and, if airbags are deployed, cuts the fuel pump.

    Awards:

    • The 2016 MINI Hardtop 2 Door was named a Top Safety Pick + by the IIHS for models built after November 2015 and equipped with optional front crash prevention.
    • The IIHS named the MINI Countryman a Top Safety Pick for five consecutive years (2011-2015).
  • The core of MINI driver technology is MINI Connected, an intuitive infotainment console with key driving info, entertainment and Bluetooth integration.

    • MINI Connected comes standard on all models, with a 6.5” high-resolution screen.
    • An 8.8” version with satellite navigation and traffic updates is available on all models. On the Countryman and Clubman, it’s also a touchscreen.
  • From cutting-edge technology to refined interior finishes, every MINI comes with a premium set of standard features. We should note that the Countryman comes with additional standard features that are options on other MINI.

  • The interior of every MINI pairs classic British charm with distinctive modern touches. From the satisfying responsiveness of toggle switch controls to the push-button start and the almost unlimited combinations of premium upholstery, dash, door and trim options that let every Owner tailor their MINI to fit their distinct tastes.

  • All MINI share certain design DNA from our earliest rally-racing days, like a wide, track-ready stance and the option of a contrasting roof and mirror (they helped us visually stand out from the pack, though being in first usually helped too.)

What’s more with a myriad of choices on body colors, wheel styles, striping and other exterior details, every MINI lets its owner design a unique vehicle tailored to his or her personality.

    Silhouette and Style Differences:

    • The Convertible and Hardtop are modern takes on the iconic classic Mini.
    • Compared to the Hardtops, the Clubman is larger, longer and distinguished by its split rear doors.
    • The Countryman has a more muscular physique, higher seating position and rugged, crossover stance.
    • On the MINI Hardtop 2 Door and 4 Door, 15” wheels are standard.
    • On the MINI Clubman, 16” wheels are standard.
    • On the MINI Countryman, 17” wheels are standard.

    Some Key Trim Differences

    • To compliment the increased engine power, both Cooper S and John Cooper Works models feature dual exhausts.
