The technical explanation: The ASC system prevents the front wheels from spinning when engine torque is applied and increases the transmittable torque, particularly in conditions with a different coefficient of friction between the left and right wheels.

And what that means: The ASC prevents wheel spin and increases grip. Always a good thing, it especially comes in handy when accelerating from a standing start in icy conditions or when pulling out into fast-moving traffic. All in all, it can make ordinary drivers great and great drivers even better.
