And teamed with its trusty sidekick, the steering-column-mounted tachometer, it's a gifted and able defender of true motoring skill and spirit. Using what's known as a dual layshaft design, the Getrag box has only four gears on the input shaft and two different output shafts. This allows for a more compact design that gives the Getrag an advantage over longer shafts, which tend to be weaker than short ones.
