New Aluminum Engine

Press the Push Button Start in the new MINI Cooper or MINI Cooper S and you'll unleash the growl of an all-new, 16-valve aluminum engine.

In the new MINI Cooper, this incredibly efficient engine features fully variable valvetronic/vanos valve actuation to deliver a smoother 118-horsepower of motoring pop.

As for the new MINI Cooper S, the same lightweight aluminum engine block has been outfitted with a twin-scroll, direct-injection turbocharger that delivers 172-HP of pure giddy-up and go. In addition to more overall "umph", the new engine is tuned to provide a potent dose of low-end torque and rapid acceleration. With 191 lb/ft of push at just 1700 RPM, jetting past other cars will quickly become your new hobby.

Better Fuel Efficiency

Here's what's most impressive about our new lightweight, turbocharged, aluminum block engine: the boost in power didn't come at the expense of fuel efficiency. In fact, at 32 MPG* (a figure that's close to scandalous for a turbocharged engine) the new MINI Cooper S gets better mileage than ever before. As for the new MINI Cooper...the birds just won't stop chirping about its downright heartwarming 40 MPG*.

Even Tighter Handling

Every MINI we make comes with "Oh my god I can't believe how tight this thing handles!" handling included. But the new MINI Cooper and Cooper S take motoring exhilaration to a new level; sleeker bodies, revamped hood lines and headlamps, and tweaked rear suspensions with aluminum longitudinals for even more control of the road. And then there's the all-new Sport Buttons that come standard and deliver even more rapid acceleration, quicker gear changes and tighter steering. Sorry, perma-grin remover is not included.

A Bit More MINI

It's a little bigger, but it's still a MINI. A slight increase in width, length and height improve safety and passenger comfort, while retaining the wide bulldog stance and wheels-at-the-corners layout that deliver our world-famous handling. We've even added a few more of those unforgettable toggle switches and slightly enlarged our signature Center Speedo.

In fact, with even more available choices for personalization - a boot-load of additional performance options, multiple new interior surface selections and a new variable interior mood lighting feature that comes standard - the chance that your MINI won't be exactly like any other MINI on the road is incredibly high. We've even done the math and there are over 10 million possible configurations. Sorry if all that choice is a bit overwhelming. But don't worry.
