JOHN COOPER WORKS

PERFORMANCE:

PERFORMANCE TUNED 208-HP TURBOCHARGED ENGINE

Uncompromising and bursting with energy, the MINI John Cooper Works? 208-horsepower, twin-scroll turbocharged power plant generates a fearsome 192 lb-ft of torque, with an Overboost function that delivers a whopping 207 lb-ft. This modern feat of motorsport engineering guarantees an adrenaline-pumping drive, head-snapping acceleration and unbeatable elasticity.

PERFORMANCE TUNED TRANSMISSION

To handle the raw muscle of the upgraded engine, the MINI John Cooper Works models have been fitted with a reinforced clutch and stout six-speed manual gearbox engineered to motor first and ask questions later.

4-PISTON BREMBOŽ BRAKES

Designed to help all that extra motoring momentum come to a graceful halt, MINI John Cooper Works models feature 4-piston aluminum BremboŽ front brake calipers with large, 12.4-inch, ventilated brakes discs. In race-ready red with exclusive signature John Cooper Works badging.

DSC + DTC + EDLC

Notch another victory for technical innovation and motoring thrills: the new MINI John Cooper Works models feature 3 different Sport modes that let the driver decide exactly how much assistance he wants controlling his MINI. With the default Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) ?on? mode, your MINI will automatically intervene at the slightest hint of instability and help the vehicle stay on a straight path by adjusting the engine power management system and applying brake force where needed.

With one push of the button DSC is turned off and the Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) takes over. Not only does this feature improve front axle traction when accelerating on slick or sandy surfaces, but it also helps deliver a more spirited ride with a higher threshold for wheel slip before the stability control system kicks in. It also reinstates power to the engine sooner than DSC, making your backroad sorties all the more engaging.

And lastly, for the highly-skilled sport Motorer, both DSC and DTC functions can be switched off completely, putting the driver in almost complete control. In this mode, the MINI will deliver full engine power at all times. And to help maintain traction and prevent the inside wheel from spinning during very aggressive cornering and acceleration, only the new Electronic Differential Lock Control system (EDLC) automatically applies brake power to a spinning drive wheel and con provide 50% locking power between the front drive wheels (mechanical limited slip differential typically offers only 30%).

17? LIGHT ALLOY WHEELS

Wide 205/45 R17 Run-flat tires hug the corners and maximize traction while the incredibly light, aluminum-alloy Challenge Spoke rims refrain from weighing you down.

UPGRADED SPEEDOMETER

As on all MINIs, the speedo is uniquely located in the middle of the dash. But for John Cooper Works models, you?ll see that the range has been extended to a limit-busting 160 mph to match the more powerful engine output.

PERFORMANCE SPECS

Where does all that giddy-up come from? The twin-scroll turbocharger operates with high-boost pressure at an extremely high temperature, coupled with a specially designed exhaust turbine housing. This relatively low back-pressure not only boosts output, but also ensures that all emissions standards are met with no loss of performance. Then, by modifying the engine?s management software, the MINI John Cooper Works is aggressively tuned for the track, with an assertive engine growl to match.

SAFETY + MAINTAINENCE

ABS, CBC + EBD

An Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) not only guarantees optimized braking distances, it also keeps the car steerable in the event of emergency braking. The Cornering Brake Control (CBC) enhances agility even in the sharpest bend, and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) manages the balance of the braking force between front and rear axle, depending on the weight distribution of the car.

DSC, DTC + EDLC

Helping every pilot feel like a pro, and safe, a MINI deploys a host of technical innovations to maintain control under even the most aggressive conditions. The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) feature helps a MINI stay on a straight path by intervening at the slightest hint of instability ? manipulating the engine management system and applying brake force where needed. Meanwhile, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) markedly improves front axle traction when accelerating on slick or sandy surfaces. And the new Electronic Differential Lock Control (ELDC) system helps maintain traction and prevent the inside wheel from spinning during aggressive cornering and acceleration.

What?s more, all but the ELDC feature can be turned off. So when motorers hit the track, they can choose a sportier mode that allows for varying degrees of slippage around the bends, and more responsibility for the pilot.

RIGID BODY

The MINI John Cooper Works models have state of the art safety systems. Resilient structural members, high levels of torsional stiffness and a safety steering column help provide all-round protection in the event of a collision or a roll-over.

MULTI-LINK REAR AXLE

This sophisticated multi-link rear axle is designed to guarantee that each wheel is always at an optimum angle to the road surface and can react independently without affecting the other wheels. Changes in the evenness of the driving surface impair neither driving response nor traction, ensuring perfect directional stability and road holding in all driving conditions. And an anti-roll bar counteracts lean on the bends.

SMART 6-AIRBAG SAFETY SYSTEM

The sophisticated technology behind the dynamic safety system knows exactly which of the six airbags (two front, two side, two head side-curtains) needs to open and when, and at what speed and force, creating a veritable safety cage on wheels. The dual-stage deployment mechanism even helps protect against the dangerous impact of secondary collisions.
