Performance

ROCKIN’ POWER BAND

The TwinPower turbocharger in John Cooper Works models operates with high-boost pressure at an extremely high temperature, coupled with a specially designed exhaust turbine housing. The resulting low back-pressure boosts output, but also ensures that all emissions standards are met with no loss of performance. As a final touch, we modify the engine’s management software to aggressively tune all systems for racing conditions and max performance.

228-HP TURBO ENGINE

With a distinctive, low growl that gives racing purists goose bumps, the John Cooper Works 228-horsepower TwinPower Turbo power plant generates a fearsome 236 ft-lbs of torque that will pin you back while doing 0-60 in just 5.9 seconds (with sports automatic transmission) – or hitting a top speed of 153 mph.

4-PISTON BREMBO® BRAKES

Designed to help all that extra motoring momentum come to a graceful halt, MINI John Cooper Works models feature 4-piston aluminum Brembo® front brake calipers with large, ventilated brake discs. In race-ready red with exclusive signature John Cooper Works badging.

Interior

RACY COCKPIT

With a red-checkered glowing LED ring around the center console, an ergonomic steering wheel with leather handgrips and race-red stitching, the John Cooper Works accents throughout the interior even make sitting still a pleasure.

THE HOTSEAT

Large side bolsters and Dinamica microsuede keep you snugly in place during aggressive motoring, while contrast stitching serves as a friendly warning to co-pilots.

STAINLESS PEDALS

Yet another reason to get your foot down in the MINI John Cooper Works: stainless steel pedals, complete with footrest (not shown here) as standard equipment.

SIGNATURE BADGING

MINI John Cooper Works models feature signature badging inside and out – on the lower front grille, tailgate, sport seats, front brake calipers, side scuttles and door entry sills.

Exterior

EXCLUSIVE REBEL GREEN

Rebel against g-forces and sound barriers as you streak around the track in this deep shade of Rebel Green – a body color exclusive to the John Cooper Works Hardtop.

History

RACING'S IN OUR BLOOD.

In 1959, the first Classic Mini was introduced: an unassuming, inexpensive 4-person “saloon” that didn’t use a lot of gas or take up much space. At first, some people didn’t know quite what to make of this quirky little newcomer. But others, like legendary F1 builder John Cooper, began to get big ideas.

 OUR FULL HISTORY

ICONOCLASTS ATTRACT.

One of the gentlemen most intrigued by the Classic Mini’s racing potential was the legendary F1 car builder, John Cooper. Already famous for his unique and extremely successful rear-engine F1 designs and 16 Grand Prix wins, it was only natural that an auto company bold enough to defy convention by placing its engine differently (sideways) would impress him.

ONE SPIN WAS ALL IT TOOK.

Cooper immediately recognized that the same features that made the Classic Mini such an innovative people mover – a transverse engine, four wheels pushed out to the corners and minimal size – also gave the car incredible balance, an extremely wide stance and amazing agility. Just the attributes needed to turn it into a small, but ferocious racer.

GENTLEMEN, START YOUR SIDEWAYS ENGINE.

And so, in 1961, with a few tweaks to the engine, a set of slightly bigger brakes, and a new contrasting roof to make it stand out in the pack, the Classic Mini emerged from the Cooper Car Company garages as the Mini Cooper.

A GIANT KILLER.

What happened next (much to the dismay of the competition) is that John Cooper’s grand hypothesis was proven correct. The Classic Mini Cooper and Cooper S went on the dominate the 1960’s race scene, winning almost every international competition imaginable, including historic wins at Monte Carlo in 1964, 1965, 1966 and 1967.* And a car for the ages was born.
